Dragon #18

Not my best dragon by any means, and rather cheap, but I liked the colours on these guys, and had to add a set of Hear No Evil, Speak No Evil, See No Evil dragons to my collection.

Dragon #17

With Easter coming up I won't be blogging next week, and I thought I'd keep it short and sweet. Here's another recent acquisition. This dragon is made from ground up quartz in a resin. I just loved the design and colour.

Wishing everyone a lovely break or an easy time if working.

Dragon #16

The sixteenth dragon I'm showcasing is my latest purchase. You may have seen some fidget creatures advertised on places like Facebook, and they're available from many sellers including online stores like Amazon or Etsy. I couldn't resist. I mean look at that face.

The detail you can get from 3D printing is amazing. This may not be last 3D printer dragon. They're very tempting and extremely flexible.

Dragon #15

Not one I found anywhere special — bought from a catalogue many years ago — but been with me for a good number of years. I use fake candles with it so as not to risk dripping wax on the figure. Larger than I expected when I got this fellow. Picture taken somewhere I used to live.

Dragon #14

Quite a cheap dragon this week. Not the sort I usually go for. So why did I pick up this one?

I bought this dragon many years ago in part to support a book and trinket shop in Tintagel, Cornwall; what was King Arthur's Bookshop at the start of the path leading to the ruins. I often found interesting books in there, and I quite liked the shop. Sadly, it's now a pasty shop, though the bookshop stayed open for a good many years after I found this dragon, and at least it's not closed. On this occasion, there were no books I wanted, but not wishing to leave the shop without showing a local business some support, I opted for this chap. I mean, a dragon... sitting on a book. Had to be the logical choice.

Dragon #13

To choose a thirteenth dragon, I thought I would opt for one of my largest. Something grand. I ordered this online many years ago, and what surprised me the most was although I saw him pictured, there was nothing to suggest the wingspan. Indeed, I took these photos some time ago in a different house and area to the one where I’m living now, and gave up trying to get the whole dragon in the photo. I don’t think I had quite such a fabulous camera, and trying to focus on both the height of the dragon and the wings proved difficult. I hope these photos show this dragon off to its full splendour.

Dragon #12

My last dragon post, I put up a photo of a Butler & Wilson dragon brooch I own. I have another red dragon brooch that's far smaller, but this week... Well, if you have the B&W brooch, it stands to reason you need the earrings to match. Love these little guys. I don't wear nearly often enough, though our lives of going out have been extremely curtailed, mine especially. Anything that raises a smile is much welcome, and they had me at 'dragon'.

Dragon #11

As well as having a few dragons around the house, I couldn't pass up a dragon to wear. Though I have a smaller dragon brooch than this, I thought I'd show the largest this week. It's from Butler and Wilson. Red, of course. Though also available in gold, the red called to me.

Dragons #10

Actually, two dragons. Quite fragile, and they feel like they're made of clay. Feel homemade, though I've seen them around, and expect they're more mass-produced than that, but still love them.

Have to keep these two together. I found them in a little shop in Dorset.

Dragon #9

Today I thought I'd showcase another of my favourite dragons. Came across this in a shop in Tintagel, Cornwall, and just love the twisted body and the way the Dragon stands.

These photos were not taken in my current home, but the dragon looks especially good against the rug I had at the time. So well balanced.

You better watch out! And no, cough; definitely not one of my cheaper ones, but liable to stay with me, always.

Dragon #8

This photo wasn't taken in my current house, but that only shows how long I've had this little fella. And when I say little, it's one of my largest and favourite dragons. We got him while holidaying with friends in Dorset many years ago. They named him Sparky. He's made from wood pulp, so though he was near a fireplace when I took this photo, it wasn't lit.

Dragon #7

This is a memory of when life was normal, and we were all able to go out and about without worry. Seems fitting as we’re struggling to find somewhere that’s not heaving with people.

Found this little guy in a shop in Wales last year. I also liked a wolf, but it was far smaller and they were all the same price, which didn’t seem right. When collecting dragons, for the sake of space, sometimes I have to go small.

Dragon #6

The last dragon I posted was my smallest, though this one isn't much larger. It's nothing fancy, just a minor item I picked up one day in Tintagel because I wanted to bring another dragon home and they weren't selling the HUGE one in the window (which I probably couldn't afford and definitely couldn't house).

It's supposed to be the stone of our anniversary month, but I don't know in what universe because I'm sure it's wrong. Still, it's hard to say no to the dragon hoard.

Dragon #5

I thought to share something a little brighter, so chose another of my dragons. In this instance, my smallest dragon. He's maybe an inch long, made from natural stone. At the time I bought this one from a gift shop in Boscastle, there were many available in various types of stone and I considered buying a few more, then the next thing I knew they seemed to disappear. Plenty of other animals are still available, but the dragons appear to have vanished back to myth and legend.

Dragon #3 and 4

When I posted way back about Dragon #1 I said I wasn't putting him in the garden. Alas, when I got a second one of the same type I ran out of room. Loved this one because he's made of leaves.

Now I have two large metal dragons in the garden so I can see them from my living room, but I may move them to a more sheltered spot, and will definitely put them away in the garage over winter.

Not the most sophisticated of inclusions but this is my latest acquisition. I got him at the Brecon Beacons National Park centre. One of those instances where this little guy seemed to shout, "Pick me, pick me!" And as a red welsh dragon was one thing my collection lacked and I wasn't taken with any of the ornaments, I brought this one home with me.

Dragon #2

Another dragon share this week (in no particular order). Although I tend to be a little more attracted to the unusual dragons, those that have been created by independent crafters on market stalls or stumbled upon in small shops, it's difficult not to be tempted by more commercial designs. It's also becoming more impossible to tell whether something has been created in bulk commercially. I once bought what I thought was a handcrafted ornament only to discover a couple of years later there were many of the same design available in various sizes. Didn't make me like what I'd bought any less and that's the important distinction.

I've had this little Dragon in a Teacup for about eighteen months. I ordered a few items, a couple of which were unavailable. The shop asked whether there was anything else on their site I liked and I said this little chap...who was a pound or two more than what I had paid. I did say to bill me for the difference but they never did. I might not have bothered otherwise and I'm more delighted with this than I probably would have been with the actual items I'd selected. It's small and much heavier than it appears to be.

Produced by Nemesis Now, a company from Stoke-on-Trent selling fantasy gifts since 2003. Part of their fairies in a teacup range, I've also seen this called the 'Good Morning Dragon'. The artist is Amy Brown.

Dragon #1

I make no secret about the fact I love dragons and own a few. Some would say more than few but they fill only one cabinet so it's far less than I could own if I let myself buy every one that caught my eye. Buying dragons began a while back. If I saw one that 'spoke to me', as such objects do, while on holiday in the UK I would bring take it home with me. In that respect my dragon collection has taken many years and hasn't grown all that fast. I bought another the other day, people cried out to see it, and so I decided to share the occasional post featuring my dragons.

There isn't much of a story to go with this one except it's a garden ornament I have no intention of putting in the garden. It's metal and no matter how many years it's designed to last, invariably the elements will wear it down. I'll set him by a window in the hope the light will work but, if it doesn't, I didn't buy it for the light. I loved the colours. When my other half first saw this his words were, "Is that a garden ornament?" to which I replied yes. "I wouldn't put that in the garden," he said so there is some method to my madness.
